This course will provide an in-depth examination of the boosting approach to machine learning, with emphasis on theoretical foundations. Likely topics include some or all of the following:
general foundations of machine learning
analysis of training error
direct analysis of generalization error
margins theory
connections to game theory and online learning
boosting as loss minimization
relation to information geometry
practical extensions
universal consistency
optimally efficient boosting
boosting in continuous time
