Description

The photograph is of the side of Claude Grahame-White's Nieuport monoplane with a number three marked on the tail parked on the exhibition field at the Harvard-Boston Aero Meet which was held in Atlantic, Massachusetts from August 26 through September 4, 1911. The meet was sponsored by the Harvard Aeronautical Society and the Boston Daily Globe. The grandstands are in the background and spectators surround the plane. Claude Grahame-White is standing in the group of people on the left side of the image near the propeller of the airplane and facing the camera. Grahame-White was given the number three to identify his aircraft during the meet.
