This is the inaugural eight page newsletter created by the Wright State University African and African American Studies Program documenting course offerings, faculty and student news, faculty and student reflections, and more. Of particular note, on the seventh page in a section titled "Director's Corner," is a statement mentioning the approval of the Ohio Board of Regents for Wright State to offer a major in African and African American Studies.
The African and African American Studies Program has published two separate newsletters. The first publication was called the African and African American Studies Newsletter. In 2015 the AAFS created a new publication called Maarifa, to replace the original African and African American Studies Newsletter. Maarifa is the Kiswahili word for "knowledge."
Both newsletters focus on highlighting upcoming events, course offerings, news, faculty reflections, achievements of the African and African American Studies Program on campus, and more.
