Abstract

As part of a journal club series embedded in the Society of Reproductive Surgeons Surgical Scholars Track (SST), SST fellows and faculty reviewed a recent publication outlining the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) 2021 endometriosis classification system published by Abrao et al. (3). The ensuing discussion explored its strengths and weaknesses and examined further the role of this classification system specifically for reproductive surgeons. The group applauded the investigators for their efforts to categorize the disease by considering the surgical complexity of managing it and for developing and publishing a truly novel endometriosis classification system. The discussion also recognized some important limitations of this system and the need for further validation.
