Description

The photograph is of Claude Grahame-White flying a Nieuport monoplane with a number three on the tail above the exhibition field at the Harvard-Boston Aero Meet which was held in Atlantic, Massachusetts from August 26 through September 4, 1911. The meet was sponsored by the Harvard Aeronautical Society and the Boston Daily Globe. Grahame-White was given the number three to identify his aircraft during the meet. Spectators and a person on horseback are in the foreground. In the background are homes and buildings.
