Description
The photograph is of Lieutenant Thomas Dewitt Milling, United States Army, holding the controls of a Burgess-Wright biplane and Lieutenant Commander Charles Nelson, United States Navy, sitting beside him with his hand on his knee and holding a support brace for the plane. The image was taken at the Harvard-Boston Aero Meet which was held in Atlantic, Massachusetts from August 26 through September 4, 1911 and was sponsored by the Harvard Aeronautical Society and the Boston Daily Globe. The image is the same as item number ms338_02_07 which is in the form of a glass plate negative.
