Publication Ethics

Clinical Neuroscience & Immunologywill serve as an open-access journal for clinical and translational scholarly work. To ensure ongoing quality and professionalism, the editorial board will reference current International Committee of Medical Journal Editors recommendations, which can be found at www.icmje.org/icmje-recommendations.

Peer review

The journal will expect thorough and just review of all manuscript submissions by the assigned reviewers, and professional and mindful manuscript evaluation by editorial staff. The editorial board will ensure timely review of all submissions to expedite the decision for publication or rejection to the authors as soon as possible.

Conflicts of interest

Authors must declare sources of research funding, when appropriate, and any perceived or real financial or professional conflicts of interest (COI). Even if no conflicts of interest are suspected, the authors must attest to the absence of COI with their submission. For any areas of potential concern identified by the editorial board which were not disclosed, the submitting author will have an opportunity to justify or refute the perceived COI, and the editorial board will require majority agreement with publication or administrative rejection of the manuscript.

Patient / subject consent

When submissions involve case reports or series, the authors must attest that the patient provided consent to publication of their clinical case(s), and all efforts must be made to preserve anonymity of the patient(s). Whenever possible, it is recommended the authors obtain signed consent from the patient prior to drafting a case report, but proof of this consent is not required with submission. Figures should be non-identifiable whenever possible. In submissions containing retrospective review of patient data, the data must be de-identified and presented anonymously.

Endogeny

The publication of manuscripts authored by members of the review or editorial boards, is to a degree to be expected for a new journal initiated with a primary educational intent. However, manuscripts consisting of authorship from members of the review or editorial board will be subject to the same peer review process as external submissions, with procedures in place to equalize the editorial process. Please see the PEER REVIEW / QUALITY CONTROL policies for further details of this process. Clinical Neuroscience & Immunology will strive to actively minimize endogenous submissions to account for a minority of published articles, with the expectation that the initial issue or issues may have a higher representation while the journal is taking shape. These will predictably represent case reports and case studies, and as such, do not typically utilize research funding nor do these article categories typically propagate conflicts of interest.

Concerns of publishing misconduct

Any concerns for publishing misconduct brought to the attention of a reviewer or editor will require written submission of the concerns from the reporting individual, and the editorial board will conduct a meeting to discuss the case. If misconduct is identified, the article in question will be retracted and a letter will be published in the following issue regarding the identification of and details of misconduct. If a pattern of misconduct is identified over time, the involved parties will be prohibited in participation in the journal, as either an author or a member of the review or editorial boards.

Review of policies and changes to posted policies

The editorial board will meet regularly to ensure the posted policies are being upheld and allow the journal to function as intended. Changes to policies will require majority support from members of the editorial board. Any adopted changes will go into effect prior to publication of the next planned issue, and such changes will be published in a letter from the editor in the next available issue.
