MS-338: Harvard-Boston Aero Meet Collection

The photograph is of Lincoln Beachey standing in front of a biplane with three boys standing near him at the Harvard-Boston Aero Meet. Beachey is wearing an inflated tire inner tube as a life preserver in case he were to crash in the water. It is believed that the young boy on the far right of the image wearing a tie is Chester Philpott, the son of Anthony Philpott. The image was taken at the Harvard-Boston Aero Meet which was held in Atlantic, Massachusetts from August 26 through September 4, 1911 and was sponsored by the Harvard Aeronautical Society and the Boston Daily Globe. The image is the same as item number ms338_05_08 which is in the form of a glass lantern slide.
