Abstract
A roundtable discusses is presented on the book "Transforming Places: Lessons from Appalachia," edited by Stephen L. Fisher and Barbara Ellen Smith. The social conditions of the Appalachian Region during the early 21st century, including in regard to social change, the idea of place, coal mining and demonstrations, are discussed.
