In 2019, the United States celebrated the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 18th Amendment which prohibited the sale of alcohol. To commemorate this anniversary the Special Collections and Archives gathered materials related to prohibition from its collections. This series contains letters, flyers, posters, ephemeral materials and more.

A Grand Prohibition Picnic at S.W. Brown's Grove
This was a flyer printed to advertise the picnic where many speakers, including McClellan Brown, would address those gathered. It includes a refreshment stand, and some singing from the Bethel Prohibition Singers.

This program shows the event schedule for the picnic at Cleveland's Grove. This event consisted of many speeches, musical numbers, and other events surrounding the prohibition platform.

This flyer contains directions for using the yeast provided by The Fleishmann Company in brewing of 'near beers'. It provides 10 steps to use the yeast in the production of the beers. After the directions, it gives a brief summary of the advantages it provides over other similar products, in terms of avoiding additional fermentation and providing a better flavor.

It thanks the company for allowing them to send samples of some of their product, lists other clients, and pitches a process that will not require many adjustments from their current setup, or require additional training.

This letter was written to sell manufacturers a new process to create a "near beer" that complied with the laws of Ohio during prohibition. The letter goes into some detail of the benefits of the process, without giving too much away. It also offers an opportunity to taste the product at a nearby facility so that manufacturers are not buying the process without testing it first.
