Both institutions had, for five years, been sponsoring a variety of exhibitions and experimental projects that probed various aspects of contemporary art. 16 Projects / 4 Artists
Wright State University Art Galleries
During the spring and summer of 1975 Wright State University organized a cooperative workshop/exhibitions program with three other schools and, in 1976, received the support of the National Endowment for the Arts. The program consisted of sending four prominent contemporary artists to the four colleges and universities during the 1976-1977 academic year. The artists selected to participate in the program were Siah Armajani of Minneapolis, Larry Bell of Taos, Lloyd Hamrol of Santa Monica, and Pat Steir of New York, each of whom works in diverse media and materials, and all of whom represent a range of artistic and aesthetic sensibilities. The four schools that participated in the program were California State University in Long Beach, the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, and Wright State University in Dayton, each of which maintains an art school, art department, and/or art gallery and each flexible enough to accommodate a prototypal program of this complexity.
The artists were sent independently to each school where they served as artists-in-residence for one week and where they involved students, faculty, and other interested persons in an activity of their own design. The activities were based upon the artist's concerns and were directed toward the sharing of their artistic working methodologies and sensibilities.

Accumulated Vision: Extended Boundaries
Wright State University Art Galleries
The aim of this publication is to re-create, as closely as possible the experience that the visitor to the gallery may have encountered. The primary difference between the experiences of the gallery visitor and the reader of this book lies in the nature of the clues. Since the actual exhibition, in all its physical dimensions, cannot be presented here, additional data, such as artist's notes and drawings, are included. An integration and recognition of our conceptual, perceptual and projective process capabilities is required here as in the gallery. The work catalogued here is more difficult to engage in a comprehensive manner than Le Va's earlier work because of the scarcity of clues and because of the spatial interrelationships of this multi-leveled gallery. The processes required to understand Le Va's work apply consistently to all of his late work and hopefully to this book as well: We must follow the artist's clues "through the labyrinth of nonessential data into the light of complete comprehension . . . ."

Luminous Realities: Projection and Video Art
Wright State University Art Galleries
"Luminous Realities" is part of a continuing series of exhibitions devoted to the exploration of concepts and processes in contemporary art. This exhibition wed artistic sensibility to modern technology by utilizing the talents of seven contemporary artists working with video and projection devices as their media. David Cort explains video and projection art as a process. The classical painter expresses an abstract idea on canvas, but I think a video artist expresses an idea through a process. Art for a video artist is the creative process, art for the audience is the participation.
The following catalog attempts not only to serve as a record of the exhibition but also to introduce the reader to the work of the seven participating artists: David Cort, Tony Conrad, Douglas Davis, Anthony McCall, Nam June Paik, Paul Sharits, and Jud Yalkut. It is intended to be an introduction to the oeuvre of important contemporary artists brought together for the first time in a single exhibition.
