    MS-147: Martha McClellan Brown

    Description

The photograph shows the guard tent at the annual Miami Military Institute encampment, circa 1903, referred to as "Camp MMI". Cadets in service uniforms are seated on a bench beside the tent and other cadets stand around the entrance of the tent. Two free standing pyramids of rifles are in front of the tent. Markings on the front of the tent read, "Chas. Glawe Mfg. Co. Awnings, Tents & C. Dayton, Ohio". The cadet wearing the dark shirt and sword, far left, is Kleon Thaw Brown the youngest brother of Orvon Graff Brown, founder and president of the Miami Military Institute. The photograph is from an album in the Martha McClellan Brown Collection.
