MS-192: Andrew S. Iddings Wright Brothers Homecoming Celebration Collection

Description

A blurred image of the Third Regiment of the Ohio National Guard marching in downtown Dayton during the 1909 Wright Brothers Homecoming Celebration opening ceremonies. Company C from Piqua, Ohio was ordered downtown at 7:00 a.m. to provide a security detail at the train station and traction lines for visitors coming to the city for the celebration. The company was given full provisions, including ammunition, to handle any problems that may occur. Other parts of the Third Regiment escorted the Wright Brothers to Van Cleve Park to the celebration held there. In the background is the First Baptist Church on the left and the Soldier's Monument on the right. A few spectators can be seen along the sides of the street.
