    Description

    General Albert J. Bowley shakes Major William E. Kepner's hand after he presented the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Kepner. Major Kepner and Captain Albert W. Stevens received the medal for gallantry in remaining with their National Geographic Society-Army Air Corps stratosphere balloon until just before it crashed in a Nebraska cornfield.
