Wright Model A Flyer, piloted by Orville Wright, taking off with Lt. Frank P. Lahm as a passenger. Caption beside photograph, "Start of 57 1/2 minute flight, Sept 9, 1908. Breeze was 4 mi. per hr. from the north, blowing down track. 'It" dipped into the grass for 100 yards before rising." Also, note beside photograph, "Picture made in 1/1000 second. Shows 'It' just leaving rail." C. H. Claudy Ft. Myer photograph album. This photograph is attributed to C. H. Claudy, Washington, D.C.
