Description

The photograph is of Harry Atwood sitting in the pilot seat of a biplane and holding trophies at the Harvard-Boston Aero Meet which was held in Atlantic, Massachusetts from August 26 through September 4, 1911 and was sponsored by the Harvard Aeronautical Society and the Boston Daily Globe. The trophies that Atwood is holding are a statue of the Goddess of Flight from Clifford Harmon and a cup from the Boston Aviation Society for shuttling five newspaper reporters in relays from Waltham, Massachusetts to Nashua, New Hampshire. Spectators are in the background. The image is the same as item number ms338_05_07 which is in the form of a glass lantern slide.
