Description

Members of the Wright Air Development Center, now the Aeronautical Systems Center, discuss research around the launch of the satellite, Explorer. Former German scientists, at least four had become American citizens with the other having at least applied. Left to Right: Dr. Ulrich K. Heidelauf, Dr. Dieter Horst Schwebs, Dr. Albrecht J. Herzog, Dr. Berthold C. Weber, Dr. Henning E. G. Von Gierke, and Dr. Hans J. P. Von Ohain. All except Dr. Schwebs came to the United States under "Operation Paperclip".
