Description

From the Dayton Daily News: "Technicians work on restoring an eight-jet B-52 Boeing Stratofortress bomber which was flown into Wright Field today to be put on display at the Air Force Museum in approx. 4 weeks. This particular 1956 vintage aircraft was slated for retirement but museum efforts rescued the plane because of "historical value and significance." (I.E. first B-52 to sustain damage in Viet Nam.) 156 bullet holes in the skin of the plane are listed in documents with the plane. Restoration work includes flushing the fuel tanks, permanently fixing the ejection seats and landing gear and "bird proofing" which consists of sealing up holes in the aircraft so birds cannot nest in them."
