Description

An IOU or promissory note, dated April 11, 1898, wherein Paul Laurence Dunbar promises to repay $215 to H. A. Tobey.

Dr. Henry A. Tobey was superintendent of the Toledo State Hospital and a frequent patron of Dunbar's.

The note reads as follows:

Washington, D.C. Apr. 11th 1898.

One year after date, I promise to pay to Dr. H. A. Tobey or order, the sum of Two Hundred and Fifteen Dollars (215.00), for value received.
