Abstract

This presentation highlights a recent report on first year student research skills. We will explain how the results of a 2013 study – Learning the Ropes: How Freshmen Conduct Course Research Once They Enter College – are reflected in data collected by our library. We’ll introduce a toolkit of short workshops created by the University Libraries to address the specific challenges that first year students’ face when they are presented with college research assignments. Since many 2nd and 3rd year students experience similar challenges, these workshops are open to all students. We’ll discuss how faculty-library collaboration can help improve students’ skills and outcomes.
