Abstract

This presentation highlights a recent report on first year student research skills. We will explain how the results of a 2013 study – Learning the Ropes: How Freshmen Conduct Course Research Once They Enter College – are reflected in data collected by our library. We’ll introduce a toolkit of short workshops created by the University Libraries to address the specific challenges that first year students’ face when they are presented with college research assignments. Since many 2^nd and 3^rd year students experience similar challenges, these workshops are open to all students. We’ll discuss how faculty-library collaboration can help improve students’ skills and outcomes.
