Abstract
The solubilities of He, Ne, Ar, Kr, N2, O2, CO, and CO2 in isobutanol (2-methyl-1-propanol) were determined at atmospheric pressure in the range 1 to 55°C. The scaled particle theory gave very satisfactory results for the calculation of solubility and thermodynamic functions for the systems studied. The solubilities were related to transport through the cell membrane via the Collander equation which relates permeabilities to partition coefficients.
