Abstract

A numerical criterion for checking simple factorizability of 2-D polynomials is presented. It is shown that the factorizability can be determined by checking the rank of a matrix obtained from the coefficients of the given 2-D polynomial. Numerical examples are included to illustrate the main results. An intuitive characterization of approximately factorizable polynomials is also proposed. The technique is illustrated by means of simple examples.
