Abstract
We applaud the important work of Dr Cunningham and colleagues, which demonstrated significant reduction of charity care among physicians involved with managed care plans and among those who practice in areas with high managed-care penetration. These data suggest an alarming trend among US physicians, who have traditionally provided significant charity care to patients without insurance or ability to pay for medical care.
