Abstract
Let me tell you a story about how my assessment practices were shaped - how my beliefs in particular affected my practice. A long time ago, in a classroom of a small community college in western Pennsylvania, my writing assessment practices and my beliefs about writing and writing assessment (which to be honest were at the time largely unformed, uninformed, and unexamined) were laid bare. I was a fledgling teacher, having just earned a bachelor's degree in Education/Secondary English, and had been fortunate to land an adjunct position teaching developmental English to community college students.
