Abstract
Perceptual speed (PS) tests have been used in both military and civilian pilotselection batteries for decades. However, few data are available showing theeffect of age on performance. This paper presents data from refereed journalarticles, manuals for cognitive batteries used in pilot selection, and studiesconducted by the authors to examine age effects. The data sources show arelatively consistent picture: Candidates in their late 20’s and early 30’s show thebest performance. Performance then gradually declines into the candidates’ early 60’s.
