In Miami County, the earliest records of naturalization appear in the Minute books of the Common Pleas Court, beginning in 1814 and continuing until 1853. The book covering the years 1837-1839, is not held by Wright State. From 1860-1906, Miami County's Probate Court took over the granting of citizenship, and naturalizations appear in Probate Court records.
This practice continued until 1906, when the process of naturalization came under federal supervision.
