Abstract
This issue of International Journal of Nursing Studies draws attention to the need for the promotion of mental health. It has been argued that mental health challenges or problems are not analogous to physical health challenges or problems such as those associated with diabetes, or heart disease and thus not amenable to the same health promotion practices to prevent the development of these conditions. The author also states that there is space within the mental health promotion debate considering the contribution of psychiatric/mental health nurses.
