Abstract
The processes by which energetic electrons lose energy in a weakly ionized gas of carbon dioxide are discussed and a consistent set of electron impact cross-sections is compiled. Calculations of the excitations, ionizations and neutral particle heating produced by the absorption of electrons in carbon dioxide gas are carried out for fractional ionizations ranging from 10−2 to 10−6.
