Abstract
Intensities of the 1304Å resonance line of atomic oxygen averaging 20R have been recorded on the nightside of Venus by the Pioneer Venus Orbiter Ultraviolet Spectrometer. Model calculations of the intensities of 1304Å, 1356Å and 5577Å emissions to be expected for various spectra of incident electrons will be presented. It is found that to reproduce the observed intensities, the incident electrons must be very soft (E
