Abstract
In Unreliable Witnesses, Ross Kraemer examines two narratives about punitive events at Rome involving enthusiasm for religious rites and teachings perceived as novel or exotic. Unreliable though these accounts may be as plain assessments of women’s religiosity, both are notable for another feature they share, namely, the prominence of individual religious experts in what had transpired.
