A Descriptive Research Study of Economic Human Rights Violations in America

Abstract
In 1948, the United Nations signed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Articles 23, 25, and 26 dealt with economic human rights. The United States is a signature of the UDHR, but is not in compliance with its terms. The descriptive research question for this study was “How many economic human rights violations (EHRV) do persons living in poverty acknowledge?” Fifty-seven participants were interviewed about their EHRV. Quantitative and qualitative data about the participants' EHRV are presented. Participants experienced over 600 EHRV over their lifetimes. Implications for social work practice are discussed.
