MS-192: Andrew S. Iddings Wright Brothers Homecoming Celebration Collection
Description
The image is an elevated view of the Ohio National Guard review during the Wright Brothers Homecoming Celebration held on Thursday June 17, 1909. It shows the intersection of Third Street and Main Street at the start of the Court of Honor and is shot looking south on Main Street. The United Brethren building, the most prominent building in the photo, is left of center in the image. A search light on top of this building was used in the evening to light displays during the festivities. The first building on the left is the Conover Building. Next to the Conover Building, at the northeast corner of Main Street and Market Street, is the Teutonia Bank Building. A sign for the Wm. H. Ahlers Fur Store is on this building. In the background is the steeple of the English Lutheran Church at the southeast corner of Main Street and Hanna Lane. Near the steeple is a sign for the Willner Bros. and Co. at 116 and 118 South Main Street. A large crowd is gathered in the street as the Second and Third Regiments of the Ohio National Guard march toward the Soldier's Monument for the official review by Mayor Burkhardt, Governor Harmon, Colonel H. G. Catrow and officials from the Ohio National Guard.
