Abstract
The family album has been described as "the visual narrative of family history." Whether as a narrative, a collection of anecdotes, or a single visual document, family photographs can and do conjure up vivid personal memories and emotions, posing questions for researchers about the process of picture taking and the role of these snapshots as shapers of family identity.
